In England, a national NHS patient survey is carried out for four areas of care including hip and knee replacements. This involves asking patients to complete a questionnaire before their operation and six-months after their operation.

These questionnaires are known formally as the National Patient Reported Outcomes Measures (PROMs) programme. They are designed to ask patients for their perspective on the effectiveness of care they received in the NHS in England.

The questionnaire gathers information from patients in three different ways, specifically:

The information chart on the previous screen is designed to give an indication of what improvement patients reported after their surgery, after being treated at this Trust. The results are calculated by comparing patient-reported scores before their operation and six-months after their operation. Results are only included when both questionnaires have been completed in full and they are risk adjusted.

If a Trust only treats patients in Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Guernsey or only treats private patients then there is no data available for these measures at this time. If that is the case, the chart will indicate that no data is available.
